Exploring Alafia River State Park: Tampa’s Outdoor Adventure Haven

by Nicolas A Scaron PLLC

If you're into the outdoors, Alafia River State Park is worth the drive southeast of Tampa. It's rugged terrain, mostly shaped by old phosphate mining, and it draws hikers, bikers, and paddlers for good reason.

Mountain Biking

This is one of the best mountain biking spots in Florida. Over 20 miles of trails, ranging from beginner to genuinely extreme, with elevation changes you don't usually find in this part of the state.

Hiking, Horseback Riding & Wildlife

If biking isn't your thing, the hiking and equestrian trails cut through forested land with views of lakes and wetlands. Keep an eye out for deer, alligators, and plenty of birds.

Kayaking & Fishing

The Alafia River is good for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Quiet water, lots of greenery, and decent odds at bass or catfish if you're casting a line.

Camping & Picnicking

There's camping with full amenities, including RV hookups, plus picnic spots by the water or under old oak trees.

It's a solid pick whether you want an adrenaline day on the trails or just a quiet spot to be outside.
