How to Increase Home Value: Boost Curb Appeal

by Nicolas A Scaron PLLC

Curb appeal is one of the cheapest ways to add value to your home before you sell. It's simply about making the exterior look attractive and inviting from the street, and it makes a bigger difference than most sellers expect.

Start with the yard. Keep it well-manicured and clear of debris or overgrown plants. Adding flowers, shrubs, or trees in the right spots can transform how the whole property reads from the curb.

Next, take an honest look at the exterior of the house itself. Check whether it needs painting or staining, and pay close attention to the roof, chimney, and front windows, since these are exactly what buyers notice first when they pull up.

Small details matter more than people think. Shutters and other architectural touches add character. Replace or repair anything broken, lights, the mailbox, doorknobs, address numbers, and if you have a porch or deck, make sure it's clean and clutter-free.

Finally, add a bit of color and warmth with flags or flowerpots, and create an inviting seating area with a bench or a couple of chairs. Keep pathways clean and hazard-free. All of this together can meaningfully move the needle on what your home is worth.
